Pop's Southern Style BBQ

Found this place on the Internet while planning a trip to Morehead. Great food, fun atmosphere. Wonderful experience.

My wife and I had to stop in for first week of the season. Wait staff are always exceptional. Barbecue pork was moist and delicious. Fried mushrooms were great as an appetizer. A bit dark and noisy inside, I could barely hear the music on the sound system. I could hear two TVs and some loud talking guests. Enjoyed the meal nonetheless.

Fast delicious best brisket I've ever had!! And a lot of food for the price. Hope we can go again

Gorgeous day ,has the Turkey club, piled up with Turkey, didn't like the pickles. Food was good. Hubby had the brisket meal with slaw and fresh cut fries. Hubby didn't like the fresh cut said it was to greasy. But you cant please everyone. Reccomend going if you haven't been

Sabrina was a great server, we've never been here before, we had catfish, brisket Reuben, and mushroom Swiss burger. All very good. Good sweet and unsweet tea to so they get extra southern points!

Nice rustic BBQ place near Cave Run Lake. Small on the inside, but easy parking and even a walk up order window. Menu offers a good variety and prices are great. Inside offers lots of whimsy.

The service here was excellent. A very kind staff that truly wants you to enjoy your experience. The ambiance is quaint. The food is amazing. Between us all we had ribs, brisket, chicken tenders, a loaded baked potato, sweet potato and washed it all down with sweet tea. Everything served was delicious and cooked to perfection. The smoke and bark was there, without being too overpowered for the kids to enjoy. Bottles of regular and sweet BBQ sauce at every table and a huge selection of various hot sauces. What a great place!

My God this place is awesome. Some of the very best BBQ I have had in a looong time! Get the turkey club, it's mouthwatering! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Friendly staff and cool atmosphere. It does get busy, but it's understandable.

The brisket and pulled pork were excellent, as was the cole slaw. The environment is interesting, but the people are packed like sardines, and I wouldnt exactly call it the most clean establishment Ive ever eaten at. The cherry on top was the amazing ice cream cone.

The service is the best , friendly like no other..and well the food ...be careful the portions are aahhhhh sooo good.. selection is mouth watering...just go.

The food I'd give 5 stars, but overall I'd say 4. It's always super crowded seeing it's such a small place. At times that can cause the staff to get stretched a little thin. The food, and price you can't beat. Highly recommend their smoked wings, and turkey. Always a must when I'm in Morehead.

Pretty good BBQ joint. Definatley great to have near the lake when camping. Portions were very good for the price and overall tasty. Pulled pork was a little salty but the smoked turkey was great. Solid option when in the area.

Pops was very good. My husband and I had burgers and fries which were very good.We had the firecracker shrimp for an appetizer which was also very good. It was very busy and we sat outside.There was a mix up and our waitress didn't know we were out there at first. When she found out she went above and beyond to make sure we got our food promptly..We even weren't charged for our drinks because of the confusion.Good food and fun atmosphere.

Really great quality for what you spend! I'd say it cost as much as a fast food restaurant, but let me say it's much better! I've been here only a few times but it's great.

The pulled pork ranch fries are a must have. Make sure to grab some of their amazing beer cheese for the road!

Yesterday was our first time we visited this fine restaurant. But It is absolutely not the last. We had a good time with the excellent service, with the finest meal and booze and with the decent pay. We will no doubt visit there soon.

Spent all day at cave run with my husband and daughters... couldn't have ended better than to eat great BBQ and ice cream on their patio! It was absolutely delicious and we'll definitely be back!

Enjoyed the Catfish Fry. Generous serving with two fillets. More than enough and no need to spend more for the all you can eat option. French fries were seasoned and delicious. My wife really enjoyed the chocolate ice cream.

We ate here for lunch, and it was fantastic! The positions were huge. I had a half slab of ribs, pork ranch fries, and sauteed mushrooms. The four stars is only because the mushrooms were very strange (more like a peppery soup). The ribs were flavorful and moist, fries were great, and the service was fast. Great experience!

My family enjoyed our meal here! Several in our party ordered their famous barbeque sandwich, it was so tender and delicious. There were lots of other choices on the menu. They also had lots of choices for dessert.

A small place, but the slight claustrophobia you may feel will be completely forgotten once you start eating. The food here is so good I can't help but feel sad when they close for winter. Everything is made fresh in the restaurant and all the smoked meat is made in their smoke house next to the main place. A fantastic place with kind service, delicious food and some of the sweetest homemade icecream you'll ever have.

Nice little BBQ spot in the middle of nowhere. Stopped in during a road trip. It was amazing. Great service. Clean, quick, reasonably priced. Food was awesome loved this little place.

The platter portions are quite large and the food was amazing! We got the half rack of ribs and catfish platter which was so good. The service was also super friendly and fast. We waited less than 10 minutes. The loaded fries were top notch but the sautéed mushrooms were more like a soup and had too much pepper. Certain sides may be subpar but overall meal was satisfying. We went back for ice cream later. Seemed a little expensive but definitely great quality ice cream.

This place was awesome! Stopped here for lunch while traveling to West Virginia. We get tired of fast food and even though this was a tiny bit further from the interstate it was well worth the detour. This is the best BBQ we have ever had (and we eat a lot in Tennessee) we had the brisquit sandwiches and they were melt in your mouth awesome and had very little fat in it. The fries were hot and fresh too. They give you an awesome horseradish sauce on the side. It was so good I asked for an extra to dipy fries in lol. The service was awesome too. Plenty of seating inside and out. We will be back next time we go to WV

This place holds a special place in my heart. Great food, especially after a day out on the lake.

We dine here regularly. It's almost always crowded, but hands down the best dining experience in the region. Huge portion sizes (two meals in one), reasonable prices. Surprisingly good beer cheese appetizers and don't forget great ice cream for dessert. Dine outdoors if you can. Great atmosphere for barbecue with Southern rock on the speakers. Owner is always experimenting with new entrees, new equipment, really knows his stuff. Dinner for 2, appetizers and desserts, no alcohol is $36.

I liked the food. The service was ok. In got a combination plate with ribs, brisket, and firecracker shrimp, with some green beans and fried green tomatoes. The shrimp was really good and everything else was too. This was recommended to me by some locals and I was glad I stopped here.

The food here is amazing, just 4 miles off of interstate 64. Portions verses price can't beat them wow. Morgan our waitress was amazing, we had a large group and at first sat outside, then the rain came. Morgan was able to get us seats inside and keep up with the refills and all the other requests our group had. Top notch!!!!!

This place has the best burger I've ever eaten! The A1 burger is amazing! The BBQ is a well honed craft that accentuates the foods instead of drowning it. The appetizers were sooo good! You owe it to your taste buds and culinary adventurous self to visit these people as their establishment! Erica and Lisa were awe8 servers! Kudos to the BBQ, ice cream, and service!

Went on a Monday at 5pm. Not terribly busy. Friendly staff, quick seating. Once I ordered, appetizer (firecracker shrimp) arrived quickly, followed very shortly after by entree (2 meats platter - pulled pork and beef brisket, side of Pork ranch fries and vegetables). Everything arrived quickly, hot, and delicious. I'm visiting the area from out of state, but this was a delicious meal I would return to buy again. The seating area is limited, so I could see issues on a busy night - however, it would be worth the waitThank you!

Best bbq for 50 miles! Huge portions for not much $. Do not miss out on this stop !!!

Such a cool family restaurant to eat at in Morehead. They have a large menu to choose from and delicious desserts to eat. I'll definitely be returning to eat here with my friends and family to eat their wholesome meals!

Best BBQ pulled pork I have EVER eaten. The smell is almost as good as everything tasted. Incredible pulled pork yes I intentionally said it twice! The sweet tea was also outstanding!

Excellent! Pulled pork, brisket, beans and the service is great! Got the brisket plate with baked beans and veggies. The brisket is sooo good! The beans have a fantastic smoke flavor and meat in them! Served with buttered toast. The veggies were sliced carrots and brocolli👍The sweet sauce is your option of several available. The bill? Very reasonable😊 I love looking at the walls while I eat, lol. Plenty of things to see. Ice cream available. Indoor and outdoor seating and always my kind of Old Country music playing. If you haven't been here, stop by on route 801 just South of U.S. 60 about a couple hundred yards maybe😊👍
